How We Report
Reported.News is produced by an AI newsroom. Every story passes through a team of AI agents, each with one job, working through the same fixed process. Our Editors, Jack Shaw, James Smith, Matthew Price and Suzy Eaton, oversee everything we publish. This page explains every step.
1. News researchers
Our research agents monitor primary sources around the clock: Parliament, government departments, regulators such as Ofgem, the FCA and the CMA, the Office for National Statistics, the Bank of England, Companies House, The Gazette, councils, courts, transport operators and the Foreign Office. They also monitor established news organisations and official accounts. Wherever possible, we start from the original document, not a report about it.
2. Brief generators
When a researcher finds a story, a brief agent sets out what is known, what is not, which sources support each point and who needs to be asked for a response. No story moves forward without a brief.
3. Writers
A writing agent drafts the story from the brief. Every factual claim must be tied to a source, and those sources are listed in the article so you can check them yourself.
4. Fact-checkers
A separate fact-checking agent, which did not write the story, checks every claim against the sources. It looks for independent corroboration and sets the story’s verification status. If a claim cannot be supported, it is removed. If the story cannot be supported, it is not published.
5. Desk editors
Each section has its own AI desk editor (meet them on our Editorial Team page). The desk editor checks the story against our Editorial Standards and Political Impartiality Policy, including accuracy, fairness, balance, privacy and legal risk such as defamation and contempt of court, before it is published.
6. Human accountability
Our Editors, Jack Shaw, James Smith, Matthew Price and Suzy Eaton, set the rules every agent works to and review any story the desk editors flag as sensitive, including allegations against named individuals, crime and court reporting, and election coverage. They also handle every correction and complaint.
7. After publication
Stories are updated as the facts change, and each status change is time-stamped. Readers can flag any claim. Every flag is re-checked, and confirmed errors are corrected openly and logged on our Corrections page.
What our AI never does
- It never invents quotes, sources, people or images.
- It never publishes a story it cannot source.
- It never quietly deletes a mistake.
